Course Descriptions

Welcome to the Class of 2014:

Although I know that you are receiving a vast amount of information about many different high schools, I want you to know that we have just expanded our merit scholarship program. More students entering Saint Saviour HS in September 2010 have the opportunity to earn scholarships. Students may list SSHS as their first or second choice on the TACHS exam to be considered for these scholarships.

Our faculty, students and I want to tell you what makes us unique and why you should consider coming to Saint Saviour for your high school years.

Academics and Facilities

We offer Advanced Placement courses (AP) in eight subject areas: calculus, chemistry, English Language and composition, English Literature and composition, European history, Latin, psychology and U.S. history.

Students have the opportunity to earn additional college credits in French, Latin, Spanish, pre-calculus, and calculus through our College Advantage Program with St. John's University, NY.

100% of the Class of 2009 is attending college, almost all at four-year universities or colleges. Two-thirds of the 71 graduates received merit scholarship offers totaling more than $5.3 million.

Biology and computer labs are state of the art.

Internet access is available from each classroom, lab, office and automated library. Smartboards have become part of the daily classroom life at Saint Saviour.

Student Life

Our sports programs includes varsity and junior varsity basketball, boosters (step-team), cheerleading, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis and volleyball. Our varsity basketball team won the '06'-'07' and '07'-'08' Diocesan B Championships. Two players have been named to the All-Brooklyn Basketball Team and their coach was named Coach of the Year by Courier Life in 2008. Because our varsity swim team was undefeated for three consecutive years, winning the Division Championships each of those years, it has earned a position in Division A. The JV softball team was a Diocesan finalist in 2008 and our volleyball team made the playoffs. In 2007, the Saint Saviour varsity booster squad won the Brooklyn/Queens Diocesan Championship and their coach was inducted in the Hall of Fame.

Students participate in a wide variety of clubs and organizations that include Student Council, drama, stage crew, art, gospel choir, music ensemble, dance, foreign language (French, Spanish Gallic), history, literary magazine, school newspaper, yearbook, anime, campus ministry, chess and RootsNShoots*.

In addition to strong academic programs, our traditions and social activities throughout the year allow students to become part of a community and to develop friendships that remain with them well after graduation. While the religious identity of Saint Saviour is Roman Catholic, we welcome students of all ethnic and religious backgrounds.

Experience a day at St. Saviour by coming for a BUDDY DAY. Please call us at 718.768.4406 and we will arrange a date. Check out our website www.stsaviour.org also and see our students in action.

Sincerely yours,

Sister Valeria Belanger, SSND

Principal
