Dear Juniors and Parents/ Guardians,

We are very pleased to work with Mount Manresa Retreat House in being part of a new initiative that will benefit students preparing for the SAT’s.  The program, called SAT Retreat, offers training in a holistic approach to taking the SAT’s; this is not meant to replace academic preparation courses.  SAT Retreat was developed by Patricia Sisca Pace has a doctorate in psychology and has specialized in test preparation; she also has over twenty-five years of experience as a youth minister and educational seminar leader. What Ms. Sisca Pace has done is to combine the spiritual insights of the Jesuits, Benedictines and Medical Missionary traditions with her training in psychology and retreat direction to address the difficulties (stress, anxiety, etc.) students bring to high-stake tests.

So, what has been the result of the SAT Retreat?  Students who took the SAT Retreat gained 165 points on average.  Those who took both the retreat and an academic test-prep course gained 275 points on average. Since the field study in 2003 other groups of students have replicated these point increases.

A limited number of juniors from St. Saviour will have an opportunity to participate in the SAT Retreat at Mount Manresa Retreat House located at 239 Fingerboard Road on Staten Island.  The retreat will be given by Patricia Sisca Pace on Saturday, March 1 from 8:30 AM to 3 PM.  The usual cost of the retreat is $150 +$10 for supplies. The Jesuits who are sponsoring these retreats are offering a $50 Ignatian scholarship to each participant.  In addition, St. Saviour High School is pleased to offer a $35 subsidy.  The final cost of the day to each St. Saviour student will be $75.  If there is a financial difficulty beyond this, please contact me, so we can make suitable arrangements.

Several of the faculty from St. Saviour will also participate in the day. If needed, they will provide transportation by car. If your daughter is interested in benefiting from this program, please send in the parent’s consent form and $75.00 by Thursday, February 14th. We hope that you and your daughter will consider this great opportunity for help with SATs.

If you have any questions, please contact us at 1(718) 768-4406; Ms. Casey (ext. #17) Mrs. D’Emic, (ext.16) or Ms. Maguire (ext. #18).

Sincerely,

Sister Valeria Belanger, S.S.N.D.
