The Melting Pot of Saviour
By Jochebed Tan
Cultural Harmony Day is perhaps one of the most exciting and
fulfilling events of the school year. This year, like every other, was
fun and exhilarating. We were all able to learn a little about many
cultures through the Peace Ceremony. Everyone had a great time laughing
and enjoying every performance, from Ms. Hart's hilarious skit about
Saint Saviour back in the day to the fashion show. Cultural
diversification was seen in performances, like the
African dance, the Japanese performance by the Anime Club, and the
amazing performance of The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts
Club".
|
There was, of course, a lot of singing. Both the Gaelic Society
and the French club sang songs representing each country.
The best part of the whole day was of course the delicious food.
There was almost every dish one can possibly imagine. There were plates
of baked ziti, "arroz con gandules," dumplings,
beef patties, etc.
"arroz con gandules," dumplings, beef patties, etc. The
desserts were amazing as well, the best perhaps being the cannolis and
fortune cookies refreshed with cups of piña colada. Thanks to everyone
who participated and helped coordinate, we were able to enjoy this
fascinating event. Every year we have this amazing opportunity of
becoming more cultured. |

The Saint Saviour Tennis Team ended its season on October 16th.
The team had made it to the playoffs. The season started off at the end
of August. My friend Kerryn Reives, a freshman just wrapped up her first
season with the team. She played second doubles. She told me that the
team was a lot of fun and she was glad she joined. She was upset
however, that they are losing their seniors, who will graduate at the
end of this year.

Kerryn says the team will never be
the same. She plans on continuing to play tennis with the team.
Unfortunately, the team lost and was eliminated from the playoffs, but
there is always next year!! GO PANDAS!!!!!

This year, as with every year, the seniors welcomed their freshman
sisters with open arms. The days of this special week included twin day,
retro day, celebrity look-a-like day, PJ day, and sign day. Some girls
wore the same shirts, dressed up as famous stars, and had a delicious
breakfast—making
|
this week even more exciting and
enjoyable. The breakfast is really the time when the seniors and
freshman get to know each other better because they sit and talk about
everything from school to music to movies. There was no doubt that by
the end of the week, the freshmen felt more at home at St. Saviour than
they had on that first day when they had nervously approached the school
doors.
